RISD has a teaching excellence award called the Frazier Award which went to two faculty members at commencement this year: Prof. Hanna Hohenberg and Prof. Leslie Fontana. I haven’t met Prof. Hohenberg yet and hope to do so eventually, but I know Prof. Fontana quite well. During crit week I had the fortune of sitting in on her end-of-term crit in a studio focused on designing “digging implements.” With a strong voice, sharp insight, and a great sense of humor I saw Prof. Fontana lead the crit with the kind of aplomb that makes up a great educator.
