Above is our very own Sarah Pease 13 FD, president and co-founder of the RISD STEAM Club, host of our “pop-up” chapter of Creative Mornings this morning. It was our hometown version of the Arts + Tech month RISD is partnering with them on, in 30 cities across the world this June. (In the back you can see the cool poster for the event from Micah Barrett 12 GD, a freshly minted graphic design alum).
Kelly Dobson, Department Head of RISD’s Digital + Media department, was our main event. She gave a provocative talk about her work, which asks questions about the boundaries between humans and machines, and, of course, arts and technology. “It’s not useful to ask whether a machine is part of you or not part of you,” said Kelly, “but rather to tango in between.” If you haven’t seen the video of Blendie, her voice-controlled blender, watch now: it will be the best 2:21 of your day.
