Plenty of RISD in ART RHODE ISLAND

New episodes of Art Rhode Island, a series of half-hour conversations hosted by designer, teacher, critic and former gallery owner Martina Windels MFA 88 JM,are airing this month on Rhode Island PBS (every Wednesday at 7 pm and Sunday at 9:30 am).
In tomorrow’s episode Martina looks at RISD’s STEAM initiative and talks with RISD Professor Paul Sproll,the RISD Museum’s Director of Education Sarah Ganz Blythe and City Arts’ Executive Director Barbara Wong about the role of art education and the challenges faced by public schools that are losing funding for arts programs.

A free public screening of this episode takes place at 6:30 pm tomorrow evening at the Chace Center’s Metcalf Auditorium. Local arts advocate and collector Joseph Chazan, who produced the series, and filmmaker Richard Goulis, who shot each episode, will lead a discussion of the issues following the screening.
Another public screening will take place next week when Art Rhode Island looks at art museums through the eyes of RISD Museum Director John Smith, Brown Professor Richard Fishman 63 SC and Newport Art Museum Director Lisa Goddard. The gathering at the Granoff Center for the Creative Arts begins at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 19.
