GREAT NEWS: accomplished architect Deborah Berke BArch 77 has been selected the first recipient of UC/Berkeley’s 2012 Berkeley-Rupp Architecture Professorship and Prize – in part in recognition of “the excellence of her craft, her creative approach to sustainability and her willingness to mentor women in the field.”
Given through the university’s College of Environmental Design (CED), the $100,000 prize involves a semester-long residency at UC/Berkeley, along with an exhibition and public lecture. Above all, however, it’s meant to offer “a period of regeneration,” meaning it will give Deborah the time and latitude to think about interests outside the day-to-day pressures of running an architectural practice (not to mention teaching).
What a wonderfully deserving recipient. Bravissimo!
