This Thursday night RISD grad students will host Art Twerk, a rare summer event that invites the public to peer into RISD studios and explore a juried exhibition of contemporary work. Experimental sculpture, printmaking, painting and digital media projects will be on view in the labyrinth of student workspaces housed in the historic Fletcher Building downtown.
The special exhibition is part of Gallery Night Providence, a city-wide celebration that gives art lovers access to more than 25 venues throughout the city, including the RISD Museum.
Among the many tours and talks held as part of Gallery Night, Ian Alden Russell, curator of the David Winton Bell Gallery, is leading a bike tour and Margaret Owen, a renowned artist, is leading a walking tour. “I love the way art helps people to engage more fully with the world around them, each other and themselves,” she says. “I approach Gallery Night very much as a painter, from a sensual point of view. I am happy to get out of the studio, see other people’s work and hear what everyone has to say.”
Don’t miss out! Art Twerk will run from 5–10 pm in RISD’s Fletcher Building graduate studios (in the CIT) on Thursday, August 15.
