Lucky Liberal Arts professors Lucy Spelman and Nicole Merola just returned from Guyana, where they were teaching a Wintersession travel study course called Exploring the Art + Science of Biodiversity in Guyana. The class was doing research at a remote field station in the country’s Rupununi region, where Spelman shot these amazing photos. The bio-diverse, English-speaking Caribbean nation located along the northeastern coast of South America provides the perfect opportunity for students to learn about conservation research while interacting cross-culturally.

Above, students set up camp and identify aquatic insects while a ringed kingfisher flies over the Rupununi River and an orphaned otter club begins rehabilitation.
