Student, Alums Earn Fulbright Grants

RISD is proud to announce that a senior, a grad student and two recent alumni have been awarded grants from the Fulbright Program for the opportunity to study abroad. Congratulations, Sue, Monica and Emily!

Sue Nguyen MFA ‘07 GD will travel to Germany to research and document the cultural integration and separatism experienced in Berlin as a result of the Vietnamese diaspora.

Monica Ogrodowski ‘09 TX will study Polish textile artists of the 1960s and 1970s, whose work of was rooted in the traumatic events of WWII and harsh realities of life under Communist rule

Kristina Paabus ‘00 IL will study with Priit Pärn and Ülo Pikkov at the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) in Tallinn where she will be a visiting artist, follow a self-directed course of study and develop movement into her installation art.

Emily Pelstring ‘06 FAV has been named as a Fulbright alternate. If circumstances permit, Emily will go to Portugal and create an interactive audiovisual archive of contemporary Portuguese dance, performance art, and music.

Stefanie Pender MFA ‘09 GL will partake in a formal apprenticeship in a factory with the glass master Pino Signoretto as part of her immersion in the Venetian glass-factory tradition.
